A sound base for whatever lies ahead
A truly future driven company, Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) is the world's eighth largest car manufacturer - with vehicle sales now sold in more than 160 countries. That's a remarkable effort, considering HMC only began manufacturing in 1967.
Hyundai Motor Company's Ulsan plant in Korea is the world's largest vehicle assembly plant and together with its design studios in Los Angeles; Frankfurt; Tokyo and Seoul, HMC is building a solid reputation for producing the latest styling and design innovations.
When it comes to state-of-art research and development HMC's phenomenal commitment is demonstrated in its ability to constantly produce great vehicles. And given the fact that during the next five years HMC will inject an additional A$6 billion into research and development the company will be well on track to becoming a global top -five manufacturer by 2010.
Here in Australia Hyundai is distributed by Hyundai Motor Company Australia (HMCA) and since it first launched here in 1986 sales of Hyundai have grown to reach its highest ever peak of over 500,000 sales. This establishes Australia as the second largest export market after the U.S.A. In response to this outstanding achievement HMCA has invested $50 million in modern facilities, including high-tech spare parts distribution systems and over 140 dealerships nationwide.
Since September 1997, Hyundai distribution has been headquartered in a purpose-designed $47 million office, parts warehouse and service training complex on Sydney Harbour’s Homebush Bay.
Hyundai cars are distributed nationally to 140 franchised retail dealers, administered through HMCA regional offices in all mainland states.
Hyundai sold 30.921 cars in Australia in 2003 to again rank seventh outright and remain the top selling passenger-only import vehicle brand (ie no commercial vehicles), with a 4.7 percent share of the passenger vehicle market and 3.4 percent of the total vehicle market.
The four top-selling Hyundai models in 2003 were the Getz which sold 11,141 units to finish second in the 24-model light car segment, then Elantra on 10,628, Accent on 4087 and Santa Fe on 2105.
